Houston Firefighters Rescue Motorist in Submerged Car

The occupant had been in a flooded ditch for an unknown length of time after the vehicle flipped upside down and became submerged in a ditch.

Houston firefighters rescued a person who was trapped in a vehicle that was submerged in a flooded ditch late Thursday.

Crews arrived at the scene in the 4000 block of Almeda-Genoa Road just before midnight, the department said in an online update. The vehicle had flipped over and ended upside down in the ditch.

The occupant had been in the ditch for an unknown time but was still alive when firefighters arrived, the department said. They then were able to successfully extricate the person from the vehicle.
