Florida firefighters helped a driver escape his burning car after it caught fire following a collision with a cement electrical power pole early Thursday.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m. along Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala, knocking out power in the area, according to Ocala Fire Rescue. Two electrical transformers were on the ground near the car and the vehicle was on fire when firefighters arrived.

As crews began putting out the flames, a pike pole was used to help the driver escape through the car's rear window. Firefighters continued extinguishing the fire once it was determined no one else was in the car, the department said.

The driver was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center, and no firefighters were hurt in the incident, which also drew units from Marion County Fire Rescue.
