Six Car CA Crash Injures Eight, Including Deputy Sheriff

Three of the eight victims in the Byron crash required hospitalization for their injuries while the remaining suffered minor injuries.

Jul. 20--BYRON -- Eight people were injured, three of them critically, after a six-car crash on Vasco Road on Friday evening, authorities said.

Three people were taken to nearby hospitals, according to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District. Five others had relatively minor injuries.

The crash included a sheriff's patrol car. A sheriff's deputy was among those who received minor injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, everyone who was injured is expected to survive.

The crash occurred a little before 5:30 p.m. on Vasco Road. Pictures of the crash indicate all the involved vehicles either rear-ended someone or were rear-ended, except for the patrol car, which has damage on the driver's side.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected.
