Sep. 1--An 81-year-old woman was killed and four others were injured when a car crashed into a nearby pizzeria Saturday afternoon in the Kelvin Park neighborhood.

A vehicle was traveling east in left lane of the 4700 block of West Fullerton Avenue when the driver, a 34-year-old man, lost control, according to Chicago police. The vehicle jumped the sidewalk and struck five people inside a store, according to Chicago police.

Chief Juan Hernandez, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department, said a 81-year-old woman was left in "grave" condition following the SUV wreck at the pizzeria store.

After being extracted from underneath the vehicle, she was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center before she died later that night, police said.

Chicago police said they have the 34-year-old in custody. Two women, 64 and 76, suffered leg injuries and were stabilized at Stroger and St. Francis hospitals, respectively.

Another woman, 82, broke her leg and was stabilized at Stroger, and a 60-year-old man was in good condition after being taken to Illinois Masonic with a leg injury, police said.

A woman working at Cochiaros Pizza, 4741 W. Fullerton Ave., said two ladies were waiting for the bus when a white SUV blew a red light and hit them, dragging one under the vehicle.

She said one of the victims was missing an arm and a leg after the crash.

The staffer, who did not want her name used, said she saw Chicago police arrest the man driving the SUV.

Earlier, Hernandez said the five people were struck at a bus stop, not inside the pizzeria.
