Las Vegas firefighters rescued two occupants from a vehicle that crashed into a lake and became submerged late Tuesday evening.

According to a release by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, dispatchers were notified at 11:55 p.m. that a car had crashed into one of the lakes near the intersection of Breakwater Drive and Port of Call Drive in the Desert Shores development.

When firefighters arrived they found the car completely underwater and both occupants, who were uninjured, standing on the roof. The vehicle was about 20 feet away from shore and one of the occupants informed firefighters that they could not swim.

Crews pulled the couple to safety without incident using a small raft and a hose inflated with air, and both were checked out by paramedics at the scene.

The incident marked the second time this year that firefighters had to rescue someone who had driven into the lake.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are investigating the accident.
