OK Firefighters Rescue Motorists from High Water

A number of vehicles became stalled throughout Oklahoma City Wednesday following flooding caused by heavy rainfall that moved through the area overnight.

Firefighters rescued a number of people from vehicles stalled in high water in Oklahoma City early Wednesday as heavy rain moved across central parts of the state overnight.

About 7 a.m., Yukon firefighters were called to a report of a part of a roof that collapsed inside a trailer home at 400 S Ranchwood Ave., a police dispatcher reported. Part of the roof landed on a woman inside, but she was able to get out from under the debris and was not injured, a Yukon spokeswoman.

A fatality crash on Interstate 40 was reported in Caddo County by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Eastbound lanes were reduced Wednesday morning.

Rainfall was heavy in Oklahoma City about 6:40 a.m., and a number of low-lying streets were flooding. People were inside a stalled vehicle in high water at NW 4 and N Pennsylvania Ave. about 7:10 a.m., firefighters reported.

Firefighters reported having trouble getting through high water to respond to report of a motorist stalled in high water at SW 29 and Cimarron Road, said fire Capt. David Macy.

Three people were rescued from a vehicle at 10835 SW 29 at Sara Road about 5:30 a.m. Water was rushing over a bridge, and firefighters were keeping motorists out of the area at 6 a.m. A street crew was requested to shut down SW 29

High water was reported at NW 7 and N Pennsylvania Avenue. Another motorist was stalled in high water in the 3900 block of SW 29.

About 300 power outages were reported in Oklahoma City, Guthrie and Yukon. A flood watch was in effect for Oklahoma and Logan counties Wednesday. Cleveland County was under a flood advisory.
