OH Firefighters Rescue Overturned Kayaker

May 28, 2019
Other boaters helped the man reach a tree stump in Stillwater River, and he clung to it while Butler Township firefighters used a boat to save him Monday afternoon.

The young man firefighters rescued from a tree stump on the Stillwater River in Union Twp. told authorities his kayak overturned, and he couldn’t get back into it or make it safely to shore, Union Fire Capt. Zach Marvin said.

People nearby in kayaks and canoes helped him to a tree stump, the captain said, noting the river was “up.”

He said Butler Twp. deployed a boat to get the man and deliver him to a drop point on Old Springfield Road.

The man refused medical attention and told his rescuers he wasn’t injured.
