More Charges for Va. Officer Who Allegedly Attacked Firefighters

March 15, 2012
Bradley Colas has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

A Virginia Beach police officer accused of stabbing two Accomack County firefighters following a single car accident there last week is facing new charges, Virginia State Police said.

Bradley Colas, 23, has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya, spokeswoman for the state police. These felonies are in addition to the two counts of malicious wounding of emergency medical provider charges he received following the March 4 accident.

The old and new charges stem from an accident that happened in the 12000 block of Lankford Highway in Hallwood, Accomack County. Police said Colas' 1999 Honda ran off the road and struck a tree around 6:40 a.m. When firefighters responded to the scene they said Colas became irate and stabbed two of the firefighters.

Then, police said he pulled out a firearm and started shooting at the fire and rescue personnel on the scene. He tried to walk away from the scene, but was stopped by state troopers.

Colas is currently employed as a police officer and has been working at the department since August 2011.
