DE Firefighter Falls From Chopper, Killed

Lewes Firefighter Tim McClanahan was participating in training when he fell.

A Delaware firefighter was killed Monday evening when he fell out of a state police helicopter during training.

Lewes Firefighter Tim McClanahan, 46, fell out as the helicopter was over Millsboro. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation of the 6:45 p.m. incident is continuing.

Preliminary details indicate the firefighter stepped outside of the helicopter onto a bar and fell from an unknown height onto a grassy area.

On its Facebook page, the Lewes Fire Dept. posted: "It is with deep, deep regret that the Officers and Members of the Lewes Fire Department announce the passing of one of our own earlier today. Further details on remembrance services are to follow."
