WA Firefighter Hit by Vehicle Fighting CA Fire

A South Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighter suffered severe chest trauma after he was hit by a civilian vehicle while fighting the Woolsley Fire.

A Washington State firefighter was hit by a civilian vehicle and badly hurt while fighting the Woosley fire in California this morning.

According to television station KING 5, the male firefighter, who is in his 40s, was part of the deployment from South Kitsap Fire and Rescue. He suffered severe, but not life threatening, chest trauma, according to the station.

The firefighter, who was working near Deer Creek on Pacific Coast Highway, was airlifted to a local hospital after the incident.

"Our focus at this time is on the firefighter, his family, our fire district and our community," South Kitsap Fire and Rescue said in a statement.

The television station reported that the California Highway Patrol said the incident was not a hit and run.
