FDNY Crew Hurt in Second Clash in Recent Days

An EMT was knocked out in Wednesday's attack, which was caught on video. An earlier incident involved EMTs dealing with a knife-wielding man.

Three New York City EMTs were seriously injured when a man attacked the first responders during an emergency call this week. The assault came days after a knife attack on FDNY EMTs.

In the latest incident Wednesday in Brooklyn, which was caught on video, EMTs were trying to calm an irate man, while other first responders were caring for an apparently injured person on the sidewalk. The confrontation between EMTs and the man turned violent, and the man is seen in the video suddenly flailing and sending an EMT to the pavement, his head barely missing the curb.

The man then tried to run away, but EMTs were about to wrestle him to the ground. By the time the incident had ended, one EMT had been knocked unconscious, another suffered cracked ribs, and others sustained minor injuries, the New York Daily News reports.

FDNY officials told the newspaper that the man was related to a patient being treated. He became upset when he was not allowed in the ambulance at the scene.

Wednesday's attack was the second on EMTs in recent days. During a call in Far Rockaway, Queens, two first responders needed backup while dealing with a knife-wielding man who was violently slashing at them, according to the Daily News. The EMTs were able to restrain the man until an NYPD emergency unit arrived.
