GA Authorities Investigate Fire Apparatus Crashes

Jan. 22, 2019
Investigators are looking at two recent accidents at nearly the same location—one with Social Circle firefighters, another with the Walton County Fire Department.

Georgia State Patrol investigators are looking at two fire apparatus crashes that happened in virtually the same Walton County location around a week apart.

The most recent crash happened Friday along Hawkins Academy Road and involved the Social Circle Fire Department. A firefighter is still in the intensive care unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, and another firefighter is recovering.

Another accident happened a week earlier only 40 feet away with firefighters from the Walton County Fire Department, WAGA-TV reports. Two firefighters were hurt in that crash.

Now the Georgia State Patrol is trying to determine if the wrecks were just a coincidence or if the location is hazardous. A resident who lives near the spot of the crashes told WAGA that about a half dozen accidents have happened there in the past few months.
