Two PA Firefighters Hurt in Nursing Home Fire, 80 Residents Evacuated

An early Sunday morning fire quickly went to three alarms at an Upper Macungie Township senior living facility.

Sep. 22--Authorities say an early-morning fire Sunday at an  Upper Macungie Township senior living facility injured two firefighters and evacuated more than 80 residents.

The three-alarm fire began just before 3 a.m. at Heather Glen Senior Living, 415 Blue Barn Road, according to a news release from Upper Macungie Township police.

Police say the fire began at the rear of the facility and 82 residents as well as five staff members were safely evacuated. All residents and staff members were taken to an off-site location for further evaluation, reunification or transfer.

A spokesperson with Heather Glen Senior Living could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday to determine if residents will be allowed back into the facility.

Authorities say two firefighters were taken to an area hospital for minor injuries.

The fire remains under investigation by the Upper Macungie Bureau of Fire and Upper Macungie Township police.
