The Simsbury firefighters were among those injured in the fatal crash Wednesday of the World War II-era aircraft at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.

Two volunteer firefighters were aboard a B-17 airplane that crashed at a Connecticut airport Wednesday, killing seven people and injuring at least nine.

The vintage World War II aircraft had been trying to land at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks after the pilot reported an issue with the plane just after takeoff, WFSB-TV reports. As the airplane landed, it struck an instrument station, then crossed the runway before slamming into a de-icing facility.

The B-17 was carrying 13 passengers, including two members of the Simsbury Fire Department. One firefighter was taken to a hospital's burn unit, but details on both firefighters injuries and conditions were not released.

All seven fatalities from the accident were aboard the plane, according to WFSB. Two airport employees who were in a building at the time of the crash also were injured, as well as a firefighter who helped battle the ensuing blaze.
