DeKalb, GA, Firefighter Sidelined by Cancer Battles Blaze on First Shift Back

April 15, 2024
Firefighter Peter Le returned to duty after five months of chemotherapy for colon cancer.

Firefighter Peter Le was in a recent battle but he wasn't facing a raging blaze. It was cancer.

“I did feel symptoms about a year or two prior to the pain that I ignored because I thought it was due to weightlifting or other physical activities," Le said told 11 Alive.

He learned he had Stage 4 colon cancer. He underwent five months of chemotherapy and had surgery to remove a mass on his liver.

On his first shift back last week, he responded to a house fire.

Le was back doing what he loves -- saving lives and property, something he's been doing it for seven years.

“I would just say it's just like riding a bike. You don’t forget those things you trained on."
