Johnson County’s Ambulance District recently announced the opening of a new headquarters in Warrensburg, Missouri. To celebrate the opening with the community it serves, a ribbon-cutting ceremony with public tours recently took place, allowing the public to see the beautiful new 16,814 square-foot facility.

The facility is geographically located to allow quick response to parts of the community that experience high emergency call volume. When the Johnson County Ambulance District awarded the architectural design of their new headquarter facility to KRJ Architecture in the fall of 2017, they expressed several additional goals for the facility, including providing space for first responder and community training, and to provide a new administrative center for the district. These goals were met with the new facility housing multiple classrooms for training, allowing standard CPR, EMT and paramedic training to take place on premise. Additionally, the district’s main administrative offices are now housed in a convenient location for residents to visit.

The headquarters has five drive-through ambulance bays, four private bedrooms, and a living room and kitchen for the emergency medical technician staff. The floor plan of the headquarters utilizes a public main entrance for administrative offices and training rooms. Separate entrances allow staff to access private crew quarters and ambulance bays. This separation of public and private spaces allow EMTs to fully rest between emergency calls.

Total cost for the facility was $3.3 million, with $2.8 million sourced through a lease-purchase agreement with Capital One, and $500,000 in capital reserve funds. Rothwell Construction of Kansas City was the general contractor, with Septagon Construction providing oversight as the owners representative.

Architect Firm/Name: KRJ Architecture.
