Station Mural Celebrates Philadelphia Firefighters

The new mural, which will be painted on the fire station of Ladder 2, charts the history of the Philadelphia Fire Department, and the design was unveiled Wednesday.

The design for a mural celebrating the history of the Philadelphia Fire Department, which dates back to the 1730s, was unveiled Wednesday.

Artist Eric Okdeh designed the mural, and it will be painted on the fire station for Ladder 2, near the Fireman's Hall Museum. Okdeh had previously painted a mural for North Philadelphia's Engine 50.

"I think this park is going to be filled over with people coming in checking out the mural, really investigating it, and taking away something new every time they look at it," he told WHYY-TV.

The design was unveiled as part of Philadelphia's Wawa Welcome America celebration. The 500-square-foot mural is expected to be finished by the fall.

"We hope this artwork inspires future generations to join us in public service," the department said in an online post.
