SAIFE Sentry: A Rugged Smartphone for Secure Communications

Jan. 29, 2013

Handheld, the world’s fastest-growing manufacturer of rugged mobile computers and smartphones, has announced a new offering from business partner, Ascent Rugged Mobile. The SAIFE Sentry combines Cummings Engineering’s SAIFE™ encryption software with Handheld’s Nautiz X1 ultra-rugged smartphone, for a tough and secure mobile solution.

“The SAIFE Sentry integrates patented interoperable secure communications capabilities with a smartphone that can handle rough environments and sensitive data. It has best-in-class toughness, both with its rugged build and its secure data transmission. This solution is perfect for anyone in the field who needs to keep data totally confidential up to an NSA-certified secret standard,” said Tim Quinn, managing partner with Ascent Rugged Mobile.

The SAIFE Sentry is ideal for use by those in the military and public safety fields, as well as anyone who needs secure mobile communications. The SAIFE Sentry uses FIPS 140-2, a U.S. government computer-security standard, and a National Security Administration Suite B cryptographic core, to provide security for voice, instant message and data transmissions. PKI Certificate Management, Tactical IP Relay Network infrastructure and multi-level trust anchors enhance encryption.

“Handheld is very pleased to provide the Nautiz X1 for this unique offering,” said Handheld Business Development Manager Danny Adams. “Along with providing complete security, the SAIFE Sentry is fully rugged, waterproof and shielded against dust and sand. It’s made to withstand the harsh conditions our military and public safety officers encounter every day.”

The Nautiz X1 ultra-rugged smartphone meets stringent military standards for withstanding humidity, vibrations, drops and extreme temperatures, and it’s fully protected from dust, sand and water. It features a 4-inch sunlight-readable capacitive touchscreen with damage-resistant glass, runs Android 4.0 and has multiple connectivity options.

Ascent Rugged Mobile will be showing this solution at the AFCEA West show in San Diego Jan. 29-31, at Booth 2204. Handheld representatives will be present. Those interested in purchasing the Nautiz X1 rugged smartphone without the encryption software bundle may contact Handheld directly or visit www.handheld-us.com.
