Benefits Claims to be Expedited

Firehouse.Com News

(Thu, 6p) -- During a press conference this morning at WTC ground zero in New York City Thursday, International Association of Fire Fighters General President Harold Schaitberger also praised President George W. Bush for directing the Justice Department to expedite LODD claims under the 1976 Public Safety Officers Benefit Act for the emergency service workers who have died.

Meanwhile, earlier Thursday morning, two firefighters were located under building rubble trapped in a fire department Chevy Suburban. It was reported that when rescuers opened the doors of the vehicle, firefighters were able to crawl out on their own and walk away.

Officials are concerned about the conditions of other building in thearea. Their may be a possibility of more collapses. Forcasts of weather moving into the area suggest rain, and more seriously, wind could affect rescue efforts. Thousands of broken window in area buildings could lose glass to wind gusts.
