Nov. 17--BROOKSVILLE -- The engine was older than the fire department itself.
It was the first fire engine bought for East Hernando Fire Rescue nearly 20 years ago, the chief said. It was purchased when the county's fire services were still divided into multiple sections.
Earlier this month, county commissioners decided to replace it with a newer model and put it up for auction.

Nov. 12--No one was injured Tuesday night when a fire destroyed an Oakes, N.D., convenience store, said Randy Burley, Oakes Fire Department chief.
Oakes firefighters arrived at Hwy #1 Fuel & Services, 909 S 7th. St., Oakes, shortly after 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, and were still at the scene at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Burley said.
The fire closed N.D. Highway 1 near Oakes for several hours.
Two people were injured Monday morning when a tire flew off a Dania Beach fire truck that was responding to a call.
A representative of Dania Beach Fire Rescue said the truck was moving east in the 2300 block of Griffin Road with its lights and sirens on when it lost a tire.
