June 30--Boise fire officials say it appears that a malfunctioning rear-steering unit may have caused a ladder truck to swing wide and crash into two idling vehicles -- including a Boise Police car -- at Broadway Avenue and Linden Street on Tuesday afternoon.

No one was hurt, but both vehicles -- a Boise police-owned Ford Expedition and a sedan -- were badly damaged and had to be towed away.

June 24--Michigan's new Urban Search and Rescue Task Force got its first taste of disaster in recent weeks when tornadoes touched down in Monroe County.

The task force, officially unveiled today at the Oakland International Airport in Waterford, has the capability to mobilize whenever a catastrophic event happens -- a weather related disaster, bombing or earthquake -- that brings down a building.

Jun. 22--Despite the temporary closure of the Main Street bridge in Amity Township, residents should see no change in the Monarch Fire Company's response times, fire Chief Brian D. Gabel said Monday.

The fire company has moved three trucks to a temporary location north of the creek near Route 422 and Limekiln Road.

Fla. Pays FF's Fatal Crash Ticket Fight

Lake County has agreed to spend money for a lawyer to fight a firefighter's traffic ticket.

The firefighter was involved in a fatal crash on Florida's Turnpike on Christmas Day 2009. The crash has already led to two pending lawsuits. Some believe the lawsuits can be thwarted if the firefighter can beat the traffic ticket, but the county fire department will have to prove the Florida Highway Patrol ticketed the wrong person.

CLOVERDALE, Ore. --

A four-alarm blaze ripped through a fire station and two businesses in the coastal town of Cloverdale, fire crews said.

Tillamook Fire District Fire Marshal Rueben Descloux said about 100 firefighters and responders battled the blaze, which began at about 4 p.m. Friday. The fire destroyed Sher-Win Auto Repair and Tow Service and partially collapsed the Nestucca Fire Administration Building, he said. A Napa Auto Parts store was also heavily damaged in the fire.
