Nov. 11--Agrease fire in the kitchen of a downtown Redwood City sushi restaurant forced the evacuation of several nearby businesses Tuesday afternoon, according to the Redwood City Fire Department.
The one-alarm fire was reported at 3:17 p.m. and extinguished within 10 minutes, causing minimal damage to the Blue Fin Sushi restaurant at 2327 Broadway, said Battalion Chief Stan Maupin.
No one was injured.
Maupin said firefighters used a dry chemical extinguisher to put out the fire. He could not confirm reports that someone threw water on the fire in an attempt to put it out.
Five engines and a hook-and-ladder truck responded to the blaze, which shut down Broadway between Winslow and Hamilton streets for more than an hour. People who had to vacate businesses near the restaurant were allowed to return by 4 p.m.
