WILMINGTON, Calif. -- Fire scorched about 20 acres of Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park before being brought under control Sunday.

Los Angeles City Fire Department used four helicopters to dump water on the blaze, said LAFD spokesman Brian Cummings.

"That's a lot for a fire this size," said Cummings, a battalion chief. "It was an aggressive air attack." Three of the helicopters were from City Fire and one was from Los Angeles County Fire Department, he said.

No injuries were reported in the fire, Cummings said, adding that officials were out early to help get everyone out safely away from the fire.

"LAPD was out here very early moving people out of the park," Cummings said.

At approximately 4:16 p.m., a small brush fire was reported on the southern end of Machado Lake. It burned for about two hours before being brought under control.

No homes were threatened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Cummings said.

Cummings said the smoke from the fire did not require closure of the Harbor (110) Freeway.

"The fire did put up a little bit of smoke," Cummings said. "The fire wasn't bumping the freeway. It never became an issue."

Weather did not hinder containment efforts, he said.
