Boise Mobile Equipment constructed a mission specific Type III Wildland apparatus for all-terrain use by Los Angeles County Fire Department. Specifications included; 4x4 capability, crew cab, 600-gallon water tank, 500-gpm pump, pump-and-roll capability, all to fit into a 22-foot long apparatus bay. The result was a 166-inch wheelbase, 22-foot-long Navistar, equipped with EZ Trac Hydrostatic front drive, 500-gpm Darley pump, and a 600-gallon tank. The Catalina Type III is an ultra-compact, highly maneuverable emergency vehicle that meets high performance needs, while sitting low to the ground and providing superior ground clearance. It is like putting a Ferrari into a Mini Copper’s shell.
