The Douglas City, CA, Volunteer Fire Department (DCVFD) and Cooper Landing, AK, Emergency Services (CLES) are the latest recipients of MSA’s and DuPont’s Globe Gear Giveaway.
DCVFD’s seven active firefighters share five sets of turnout gear, three of which are more than 10 years old. Because DCVFD is funded entirely by donations from its community, the department is unable to replace its aging gear or purchase additional needed PPE, such as helmets. Additionally, the lack of PPE makes recruiting new volunteers a challenge, and probationary members are issued well-used turnout gear that often is ill-fitting and compromised by age and use.
All of CLES’ turnout gear are more than 10 years old and were donated by other departments. Because the department relies solely on fundraisers, donations, grants and ambulance patient billings, its budget is limited. CLES recently had to purchase new apparatus, meaning that its ability to afford new gear is significantly diminished.
The addition of four new sets of gear and four new helmets through MSA’s and DuPont’s Globe Gear Giveaway will have a significant effect on both departments.

TouchPoint is offering a 30 percent discount on everything in its shop to first responders. TouchPoints’ patent-pending BLAST (bi-lateral alternating simulation-tactile) technology alters the body’s “fight or flight” response that’s caused by stress. A device that’s worn on the wrist, clipped to clothing or held emits vibrations that disengage your stress response, which can affect the individual’s performance and health.
The 30-percent-off code for first responders is “FF30” and is applied during checkout.
