Man Dies, Cat Rescued in Minn. Apartment Fire
--
Dec. 06--Fire broke out in a first-floor apartment early Monday in Savage, killing the unit's lone resident, a city official said.
The fire was reported shortly after 4 a.m. at the building in the 3900 block of W. 126th Street, according to Scott County dispatch.
A 49-year-old man was in the unit where the fire started, said city spokeswoman Amy Barnett. He died and his identity has yet to be released.
The fire was contained and limited to the one unit, Barnett said. Other residents in the building were allowed back in after two to three hours, she said.
There was no immediate word on how the fire started, but Barnett said that "it doesn't appear that it was intentional. There were no suspicious circumstances."
A cat that lived with the man was rescued by first responders, Barnett said. "They had to do a little work on the cat," she said.
