A woman was killed and nine others injured in a house fire in Brooklyn on Monday.
Police said the fire broke out around 6 p.m. at a home on Fenimore Street in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
It took about an hour for more than 100 firefighters to extinguish the two-alarm blaze, the FDNY said.
After the fire was out, police and fire officials said Patricia Thomas, 64, was discovered on the second floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Eight firefighters and one civilian suffered minor injuries in the fire, an FDNY spokesman said.
The civilian and three firefighters were taken to Kings County Hospital Center for treatment, while five other firefighters were treated at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, the FDNY said.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the FDNY said it started in the second floor and attic of the three-story home.
Police said the medical examiner’s office will determine Thomas’ cause of death.
