Ky. Wildland Firefighter Struck by Log
Forest Ranger Technician Don Lam with the Kentucky Division of Forestry was struck from a burning log that broke loose and rolled off a bluff. The impact left him unconscious and with second degree burns.
He was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville and is listed in serious condition.
"We are very concerned about Don's condition and we will be investigating the incident and pursuing enforcement options in an effort to prevent future accidents from occurring," Kentucky Division of Forestry Director Leah MacSwords told the news station. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Don and his family.”
The wildfire spread from a burn pile on a construction site owned by River Oaks Timberland Management. The wildfire continues to burn as forestry officials consider further actions to take in order to contain the fire, according to the report.
