Atlanta Firefighter Injured in Blaze
ATLANTA --
Fire officials say one firefighter was hospitalized after battling a fire at a six-story condo building near Oakland Cemetery on Tuesday morning.
Officials told Channel 2 Action News reporter Mike Petchenik at the scene that firefighters were dispatched to the Oakland Park Condos at about 5 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building, officials said.
Firefighters said they evacuated the two top floors as a precaution. Officials said it took 60 firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the fire.
One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was taken to Crawford Long Hospital for treatment. He was listed in stable condition.
No injuries to anyone inside the condos were reported.
Fire officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but said they are looking into whether a gas grill on a rooftop deck may be the cause.
Atlanta fire crews fought a fire less than an hour earlier at a home a few blocks away.
