OKLAHOMA CITY --

An 8-year-old boy had an opportunity to thank the firefighters and emergency crews who came to his rescue when he stopped breathing.

Noah Miller visited the fire station on Friday to meet the rescuers.

"I want to say you saved my life," he said.

Noah suffered from asthma and had an attack about a month ago.

"I turned around and he was falling over," said Noah's grandfather Calvin Conner. "The reason his heart stopped is because he was not getting enough oxygen."

He performed CPR and called for help. The firefighters were the first to respond.

"Our emotions are turned up a lot higher in something like this," said Ryan Woodard of the Oklahoma City Fire Department. "I was very excited when his pulse came back. There were some intense minutes in there when he did not have a pulse."

While Noah wanted to wait until he was better to say thank you, the firefighters said it was a moment they've been waiting for.

"I could retire today," said Woodard. "This is the highlight of my career."

The firefighters said the outcome of the story might have been different if Conner didn't know CPR.

Noah had to wait a little while to express his gratitude on Friday. When he and his family arrived at the fire station, the crew was out on another emergency medical call.
