XENIA, Ohio --

Authorities said a Xenia business caught fire and employees attempted to put the flames out themselves.

The fire happened Friday at Dayton Auto Sales, which is located on Dayton Avenue.

Xenia resident Phil Osterhouse saw the smoke rolling out of the business. Firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly tried to find the source.

Xenia Fire Chief Jeff Leaming said, Not sure whats going on. Possibly someone working on a car, which caught fire, and in turn, caught the structure on fire.

Authorities said when a vehicle is on fire, it creates a few extra problems.

Leaming said. The vehicle adds some additional elements. Obviously brings fuels, which adds to our concerns for not only our safety, but other occupants that might be inside.

Fire officials said no one was inside the structure. Workers were in the parking lot when fire crews arrived.

According to fire officials, someone was trying to put the fire out with a garden hose. This is something that firefighters do not recommend.

Leaming said it is important to remember to get out of the area and to a safe spot.

At this time, fire officials are not sure how much damage was done to the building or how it will affect the business.
