MILWAUKEE --

A Milwaukee man threatened a group of firefighters with a knife Thursday night.

The firefighters responded to a medical call at a home at 70th Street and Florist Avenue.

When they got inside the house, they said a man came after them with a knife, threatening to kill them.

The fire captain called police for help.

"I slammed the door shut. As I was calling on the radio, he ripped the door back open and there he is with knife. I punched his hand and got the knife out of the hand, and all of us kind of took him to the ground. We had to subdue him he fought us the entire time," Milwaukee Fire Department Capt. Aaron Lipski said.

The man was taken to a hospital for observation.

Milwaukee fire crews are not trained to defend themselves in violent situations.
