WEST MODESTO, Calif. --

A man charging a drill with a motorcycle battery ignited a fire Monday night, injuring a 3-year-old girl.

Firefighters in West Modesto said the battery overheated at about 9 p.m., starting a fire next to the house that spread to the home and its garage.

"We're very lucky because there was a lot of occupants on the property and that we had no other injuries. And no injuries to fire personnel either," said Pamela Hiller of the Burbank-Paradise Fire Department.

The 3-year-old had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
