Pennsylvania Chief Saves Two from Burning Home
NEW BEAVER, Pa. --
A fire chief is being credited with rescuing a Lawrence County couple and their dogs as their house quickly burned Wednesday morning.
A fire in New Beaver nearly took the lives of a young couple.
The flames began inside a small garage next to the home on Possum Hollow Road in New Beaver Borough before spreading to the home.
Neighbors told Channel 4 Action News they spotted the fire and tried to get into the home and reach the young couple sleeping inside, but flames kept them away.
"I got on the front porch and beat on the door a couple of times and then kicked the door open," said New Beaver Borough Fire Chief Kevin Peters. "I met the male party that lived there coming down the steps from upstairs. I got his wife and we got them both out of the house."
Rescuers also managed to save the three family dogs.
Peters said it he wasn't scared of the smoke and flames he might encounter inside the home, but rather the unknown..
"Am I invading their home? You have no idea what they're going to be thinking. I'm thinking I'm going to be meeting a gun," said Peters.
Firefighters managed to knock down the flames before the fire completely destroyed the house.
So far there's no word on what caused the fire.
