Five-Alarm Blaze Rages in Queens

Firefighters quickly escalated their response as the flames were spread by the heavy winds.

QUEENS, N.Y. -- A wind-whipped fifth-alarm fire jumped from house to house in the Woodhaven section of Queens.

The fire broke out in one house on 96th Street just before 12:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon and quickly spread to several others.

Firefighters quickly escalated their response as the flames were spread by the heavy winds.

No injuries were immediately reported.
