APOPKA, Fla. --

A man who was awakened by a fire in his Seminole County home said on Monday that firefighters did not arrive quickly enough and went to the wrong address before dousing the blaze.

John Mameletzi said he was asleep when a fire broke out in the kitchen of his home, located near Apopka.

He tried to put the fire out with a garden hose, but the flames spread too quickly.

"Maybe my time frame is off, but it felt like anywhere up to 25 minutes," Mameletzi said. "I was watching my house burn and that was a very scary and stressful sight."

"I did call my dispatch to talk to them, and from dispatch to (firefighters being) on scene, it was 4 minutes and 41 seconds for the first two arriving units," Dave Williams of Seminole County Fire Rescue said.

Firefighters said all of the man's claims are not true.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
