FDNY Firefighter Accused of Calling in False Alarms

Authorities said he was fearful he'd be transferred due to service cuts.

An angry firefighter - fearful he'd be transferred due to service cuts - was busted for calling in a string of false alarms to his sleepy Bronx firehouse, authorities said yesterday.

Nicholas Vrettos, 30, allegedly reported a fire at a school cafeteria in his north Bronx neighborhood of City Island on Dec. 4 - one in a string of calls made shortly after the department brass announced the cutbacks. . Sources said Vrettos was afraid he would be transferred from the station, just blocks from his house. . Vrettos, who was released on his own recognizance, was charged with falsely reporting an incident.
