Fatal Crash Sparks Pennsylvania Firehouse Blaze
HILLTOWN, Penn. -- A car slammed into a Bucks County firehouse Friday killing the driver and sparking a two-alarm blaze.
Authorities said the accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. when a car traveling on Hilltown Pike and County Line Road struck a utility pole in front of the Hilltown Firehouse. The car slammed into the firehouse and caught fire.
Nearly 100 firefighters from Bucks and Montgomery Counties responded to battle the blaze that quickly spread to two-alarms and took almost one hour to bring under control.
The driver, Kyle Thomas Chorba, 18, of Lansdale , was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire officials say no firefighters were injured; however four fire engines inside the building sustained some smoke and heat damage. At least one engine was significantly damaged.
"We've had multiple fire companies in the area offer to loan us a pumper to replace that until we can get out truck back in service," said Battalion Chief Greg Lees.
Because of the generosity, officials say fire service to this community will not be disrupted.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
