LITTLETON, N.H. --

A massive five-alarm fire engulfed a warehouse and several homes in downtown Littleton early Thursday morning.

Flames broke out at a giant warehouse on Saranac Street about a block from Main Street sometime around 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters said strong wind gusts helped drive the flames to nearby homes.

At least 22 towns were called to Littleton to help fight the fire.

Main Street was shut down and power was shut off in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing flames from as far away as a quarter mile and hearing loud explosions.

There's no word on how the fire started or whether anybody was injured.

Officials haven't said what was inside the warehouse or who the building belonged to.
