Couple Hospitalized In Denver House Fire
DENVER --
A couple, suffering from smoke inhalation, was taken by ambulance from an overnight house fire in southwest Denver Monday.
The 911 call came in at 1:10 a.m., and was a hang up. Fire investigators later learned the woman calling for help dropped the phone, which caused it to disconnect.
The single fire engine responding to the call at 2646 S. Perry St. found flames shooting from the home and called for additional fire units.
The two homeowners were already out of the home when firefighters arrived but they said their small dog was still inside. The dog, which was tied up in one of the rooms, died in the blaze.
The couple, who has not been identified, were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, which caused heavy damage.
The cause is under investigation.
The Mile High Chapter of the Red Cross said it would contact the couple to arrange temporary shelter.
