Several families were left out in the cold early Tuesday after a fire ripped through a duplex unit in northwest Oklahoma City.

Officials said the fire started at the Waterford community, located at Northwest 63rd Street and Penn Avenue. Investigators said the blaze apparently started on the roof of one duplex and moved quickly to nearby units.

Several homes were evacuated while crews worked to get the fire under control.

"It looked like the flames were shooting at least 30 to 40 feet high out of the top of here," said neighbor Leo Cravens.

Officials said there was about $500,000 damage to four units.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, and investigators said they'll resume their look into the blaze's cause later Tuesday.
