Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze early Sunday morning that destroyed a business under renovations. The fire broke out around 1 a.m. in the old Mountain Surf business located at 8th and K in downtown Sacramento. Over 100 firefighters from various agencies responded to the scene to fight the flames. Firefighters said that the fire broke out in the basement of the building, which made it tough to fight. Firefighters made an aggressive attack of the fire but were forced out of the building due to the extreme fire conditions. Major fire damage was confined to the one business with a smaller amount of damage done to a second business' basement. Parts of K Street were closed while crews mopped up the area and light rail was interrupted. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reports of injuries.
