Recovery Continues for Burned Georgia Firefighter
A Hall County firefighter hospitalized for more than three weeks with second and third-degree burns is expected to be in the hospital for a few more weeks after undergoing a third skin graft procedure, officials said Tuesday.
Angie Roach, 31, continues to recover in the Grady Memorial Hospital burn unit in Atlanta, Hall County Fire Capt. Scott Cagle said.
She was taken out of intensive care last week but underwent the skin graft over the weekend, he said.
"She is now in the 'step down' unit but is still in the burn unit, where she will remain for the next couple of weeks," Cagle said.
Roach was injured when she fell through a fire-weakened floor and into a burning basement while responding to a house fire call Aug. 4. A recovery fund for her family has been set up through the fire department, and a fundraising softball tournament will be held Sept. 15.
