Man Dies In South Carolina Duplex Fire

A 31-year-old Greenwood County man died Friday morning in a fire at a duplex apartment, the county coroner said.

Greenwood firefighters went to the fire on Willowdale Court at about 1:30 a.m.

There was one person in each of the apartments. One of the residents was able to escape, but Donald Toneto McGrier, Jr. was found lying near the door of the other units.

Firefighters said that the blaze began in the kitchen of the apartment and that it appeared to be accidental.

An autopsy on McGrier was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
