Garfield Township, MI -- A woman died and a man and an infant are being treated for injuries after a Tuesday collision at the Zimmerman and Silver Lake road intersection in Garfield Township.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.

Grand Traverse County Sheriff Scott Fewins said the woman was pronounced dead at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. The infant was taken to Munson and later transported to DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids. The man remains at Munson, where his condition was unknown.

Officials said a Grand Traverse Metro fire engine from Garfield Township was responding to a chimney fire at Boone's Long Lake Inn. The fire truck was traveling west on Silver Lake Road and a car was crossing the intersection when the collision occurred, Fewins said.

Rob Boyer, a manager at Gill-Roy's Hardware located near the intersection, said he heard a "loud thud" but didn't see the crash.

"I've seen quite a few accidents, but this one made me sick," Boyer said.

The accident remains under investigation.
