NEW YORK (AP) -- Four people died and four others were hurt when fire broke out in a Brooklyn apartment building, authorities said.

The dead included two children, described by police as a 7-year-old girl and a 7-month-old boy. A 67-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman also died in the blaze Friday, police said. Their names were not released.

Four others were hurt, including two -- a 14-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman -- who were listed in critical condition, police said. A 17-year-old girl and a 56-year-old woman were in stable condition.

The cause of the fire was under investigation but was not considered suspicious, said Susan Blake, a Fire Department spokeswoman.

The fire started at about 8:30 p.m. in an apartment on the sixth floor of 626 Wythe Place in the Williamsburg section. It was extinguished shortly before 9 p.m., Blake said.
