Minnesota Firefighter Killed In Crash
The St. Cloud Times has reported that a Minnesota firefighter died in the line of duty Monday after a vehicle crashed into the area where he was working.
Don Billig, an assistant chief with the St. Cloud Fire Department's volunteer division, was an 18-year veteran of the department. He is survived by a wife and three children.
The Times reported that Billig was replacing a barricade at a construction zone when a vehicle struck his crew's truck, which then hit Billig. The driver fled the scene but later turned himself in to St. Cloud police and was being held at the Stearns County Jail where he faces possible charges.
This is the department's first line of duty death.
St. Cloud fire officials could not immediately be reached. Additional information will be provided when it becomes available.
