MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Firefighters Monday found the body of a girl who jumped into the rain-swollen Milwaukee River more than a week earlier to try to save her younger sister.

Firefighters searching the river by boat found the body of 12-year-old Temisha Warren, said Lt. Robert Delgadillo of the Milwaukee Fire Department. The search continued for her 6-year-old sister, Tia Woodley, he said.

The two girls were on a low floating dock near their home May 23 when Tia fell into the river and Temisha jumped in after her, authorities said.

Officers and firefighters have searched the river since then, but the current has been too swift for divers to conduct a thorough underwater search.

Temisha's body was found in the river near a downtown bridge, less than a mile from where the girls were last seen.
