At 6:08 a.m. Sunday, Medic 3 from the Bonham, Texas Fire Department was involved in the accident while responding to a serious MVA, according to Fire Chief Mike Baker.
Firefighter/EMT-I James Edward Taylor, 28, of Blossom, Texas, was killed.
According to Texas State Police, Taylor was in a 1995 Ford ambulance traveling East bound on Highway 56 in Fannin County.
He was responding to an accident call when a 2001 PT Cruiser traveling West on Highway 56 swerved sharply into the East bound lane. The front right of the vehicle struck the ambulance and both vehicles caught fire after impact. Taylor died at the scene at 6:55 am.
Taylor, who had been with the combination department for six months as a paid firefighter/EMT, leaves behind a wife and two children.
Taylor was also a volunteer at the Blossom, Texas fire department, Baker said. Taylor previously worked at a private ambulance service before being hired at Bonham.
Firefighter/Paramedic David Hale, 31, the driver of the unit, was listed in guarded condition at Northeast Medical Center in Bonham, Monday.
The woman driving the PT Cruiser, Kathy Deleon, 35, a nurses aid from Honey, Texas, also died at the scene.
The ambulance was responding to a serious collision where a victim was killed and a second critically injured.
Texas State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident involving Medic 3.
According to the Bonham Fire Department, The Taylor family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the James Taylor Memorial Fund at Bonham State Bank, Bonham, Texas, or to the Blossom Volunteer Fire Department in Blossom.
Visitation will be held at Bright-Holland Funeral Home in Paris on Tuesday evening, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Prairiland High School in Pattonville at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
