One Dead After Car Slams Into Detroit Home, Starts Fire

Before the collision, the driver ran a red light while traveling north and hit another vehicle, a preliminary investigation indicates. The ensuing fire gutted the home.

Jan. 22--One person is dead after the car he was in slammed into a house on the west side of Detroit and caught on fire.

The home in the 15000 block of Lahser, near West Outer Drive, also caught fire, Detroit Police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens said. All ten people inside was able to escape, she said.

Before the collision, the driver ran a red light while traveling north on Lahser and hit another vehicle, Stephens said, citing the preliminary investigation.

The car then jumped a curb and ran into the house, Stephens said.

One of the people inside the vehicle was trapped and died, she said. Two others were pulled from the car-- one of those individuals fled the scene and another was taken to the hospital, Stephens said.
